Personal Coaching
What is a coach?
A coach is an ally who offers unconditional, non-judgemental support, and is constructively challenging. Through listening attentively, and contributing observations, affirmation, challenges and evocative questioning, a coach can help you clarify and maintain your focus, identify opportunities and overcome obstacles; define and achieve your own success.
What are the benefits?
The benefits of coaching are wide ranging and can include:
• more time for the things you enjoy
• staying motivated- regular coaching sessions support you to get around
to it now!
• successful career or other life transitions- career advancement, becoming
a parent, change in lifestyle or circumstances
• creating and enjoying a better quality of life
Who can benefit from coaching?
Coaching can be particularly useful for people who are seeking a significant change in their lives – including those who have yet to identify precisely what needs to change.
As a personal coach, Joette has a particular interest in working with people who are in a period of change or transition, seeking a more authentic and fulfilling life. Central to her work as a coach is the belief that the more we align who we truly are with what we do in our lives, the more happy and satisfied we are.
How does it work?
Coaching is solution focused (taking action to create positive change), and client led (your agenda is the agenda).
Personal coaching is generally done over the telephone, though Joette will see people in person if they have a strong preference for working in this way. Coaching with Joette consists of 2hours of contact time per month, split between 2, 3 or 4 sessions. It also includes unlimited email or brief telephone contact throughout the month, as she is happy to celebrate successes, or provide supplemental support, between sessions.
The length of time spent working with a coach varies significantly based on what a client wishes to achieve. Joette has worked with people for durations of between six weeks and eighteen months. She has no minimum time commitment, though experience has demonstrated that most people work for 2-3 months before seeing significant change occur.
It is important to state that coaching is not a form of counselling. Most often, counselling involves an exploration of the past. Coaching is very much about the present, and creating the future.
Joette offers a free initial coaching session. Please contact her if you would like more information.
“Beware what you set your heart upon. For it surely shall be yours.”
One of Joette’s first coaching clients, with whom she worked for 18 months, wanted to create space in her life in which to pursue her longstanding interest in art. Having battled with debilitating health problems, this client had experienced a loss of confidence, and had become very dissatisfied with certain aspects of her life.
By the time their work together came to an end, this client had created a significant change for the better in one particularly difficult, and important, area of her life. She had also negotiated, and planned for, a reduction in her work week, enabling her to spend one day per week attending art school.
The Christmas after they finished working together, her client sent a card on which one of her paintings was printed; it was titled ‘Transformation’. In January 2005, she presented Joette with a calendar that she had created, filled with reproductions of her paintings.
